Sam Bradford, yes or no?
The St. Louis Rams are a franchise in serious need of a change of direction. Since 1995, the Rams have only had 4 wining seasons, and as you look around the roster, there are more holes than a pound of swiss cheese. So once again, they occupy the top spot in this years draft. So what should the Rams do?
On offense, the only place the roster seems set is RB Steven Jackson. The Rams attended QB Sam Bradford’s pro day last week and many thought it was the most impressive pro day produced by a quarterback in over a decade. The Rams current roster has Marc Bulger, Kyle Boller, Keith Null and newly acquired A.J. Feeley. Bulger is expected to be released. That lineup doesn’t scare opposing defenses in the least.
So what about Sam Bradford? He had a very impressive Pro Day workout.
But selecting a quarterback in the first round doesn’t translate to success. See Jeff George, Tim Couch and David Carr. With the Redskins seemingly making noise about being interested in Bradford, do the Rams trade back and acquire another pick? I say they should if they are not 100% sold on Bradford.
At #4, the Rams would most likely have their choice of one of the 2 big DT’s available this year either Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy. OT Russell Okung could be available as a big left OT, a position of great need since Orlando Pace departed.
Or at #4, perhaps Cleveland or Buffalo would want to make a move for Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen if each team thought the other might covet him more. Then the Rams could slide back a few more spots and acquire more picks. Of course you need a trade partner to move back, but I think it would be a wise strategy in a draft as deep as this year’s is expected to be. Plus trading out of the number one overall saves the franchise millions of dollars.
