Spagnuolo Sees Progress, Rams Should Say No
St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo says that he sees major progress for the Rams between last year and this years young OTA schedule. Speaking to the media, Spagnuolo said, “There’s a huge comfort level there. I felt that, I actually jotted something down on my notes here that we’re certainly ahead of where we were last year defensively with the communication and getting things set and people feeling comfortable.”
St. Louis Globe-Democrat columnist Howard Balzer penned a column this weekend saying that the Rams should stay the course and resist to add players to the roster that have name recognition with the fans. He illustrates the Seahawks signing of LenDale White and his subsequent release. Balzer went on to make the case that the Rams should resist the urge to ink disgruntled WR Patrick Crayton to a contract if he’s released.

Balzer makes the point that the rams do not have a true #1 wide receiver and that’s a point well taken. Laurent Robinson should be ready for training camp and a big year, after missing most all of 2009 with an injury. Robinson has the most experience of any player in the receiving corps for the Rams, headed into his 4th season. But St. Louis also has Donnie Avery and drafted a dynamic receiver from the University of Cincinnati in Mardy Gilyard. The Rams are not one player away from qualifying for the playoffs in 2010, and Crayton would only serve as a player who would be taking valuable time away from the youth on the Rams roster.
St. Louis is in a full blown rebuilding process and I say let the youth on the field and see who can play and who can’t. A Crayton signing makes no sense at this time.
Time Running out for Rams,Atogwe
Time appears to be running out for the St. Louis Rams to strike a deal with FS O.J. Atogwe. He has not signed his tender offer which would pay him over 5 million dollars less than he made in 2009.
Atogwe was second on the Rams squad last season with 74 tackles, 1 sack, 3 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions. Atogwe is entering his 6th season, all of which he’s spent with the Rams and has 19 career interceptions.
The Rams have until midnight tonight to reach an agreement with Atogwe. The Rams will have to offer him 110 percent of last years salary if they chose to retain his rights, which is just less than 7 million dollars.
