A day after their nail-biting preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns (Rams 19 – Browns 17), the St. Louis Rams signed local favorite, WR Danario Alexander from the University of Missouri. Wide receiver Brooks Foster was released.

As reported by Eric Schmidt for Red Zone Talk on RantSports.com, the deal was completed Sunday afternoon.

Alexander tweeted he will wear number “A-T-4″ for St. Louis. (more…)

Rams vs. Browns: What 2 Watch 4

The St. Louis Rams look to rebound from a disappointing preseason opener vs. the Vikings (MIN 27 – STL 7).  They’ll try and do so on the road in week two’s preseason match-up on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns.  Kickoff  is scheduled for 7:30 PM (ET).

Here’s What 2 Watch 4 vs. the Browns:

1.  Touchy-Feeley

Aug. 14, 2010 - Saint Louis, Missouri, United States of America - August 14, 2010: Saint Louis Rams Quarterback A.J. FEELEY.

It’s a tough decision to make if you’re Rams’ head coach Steve Spagnuolo:  Who’s your starting QB come week one?  It’s not exactly an easy job to accept either.  The Rams’ QB crew was sacked six times in total vs. Minnesota.

The first thing I’ll be waiting to see is how QB A.J. Feeley (who’s the most over-looked player at camp) does this week.  With only playing two series against the Vikings, Feeley (3/6, 19 Yds) didn’t give us much to mull over in his debut.  The Rams signed the 33-year-old vet because he knows offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur’s West Coast system, but everyone’s waiting to see if he’ll be running it on the field in the Rams’ first game, or reading off a clipboard from the sidelines.

The rest of his preseason will likely determine that.  If Feeley doesn’t impress the coaching staff anymore than rookie QB Sam Bradford does, (more…)

Westbrook to San Fran, not St. Louis

Veteran running back, Brian Westbrook is officially a San Francisco 49er, not a St. Louis Ram. Westbrook signed a one-year deal with the team on Monday.

The 30-year-old RB passed a physical earlier this summer for the Rams, and it was reported on Saturday the Rams were close to signing the veteran.  St. Louis quickly squashed those comments saying a deal with Westbrook was not imminent.

It was Kevin Demoff, vice president of football operations, who said before Saturday night’s preseason opener that he had not spoken to Westbrook’s agent for several days.

St. Louis was still optimistic about landing the running back to lighten the load on Steven Jackson’s shoulders this season.  Check out, Westbrook to make decision on Monday for more on what would have been.

The Rams will now have to rely on young RBs Kenneth Darby and Chris Ogbonnaya to back-up Jackson.  Earlier in the week, Jackson voiced his opinion regarding young running backs.

Rams injured at practice

St. Louis Rams LT Rodger Saffold and DE Victor Adeyanju were injured today at practice. Saffold left practice early with a back injury and will need to get an X-Ray. Adeyanju suffered a knee injury that will need looked at. Spagnuolo is awaiting test results before determining whether or not each will miss substantial playing time.

Saffold and Adeyanju are critical to the success of the offensive and defensive lines, respectively.

Westbrook to make decision today

Brian Westbrook will supposedly make the announcement of where he’ll play football in 2010 today. First of all, let us be thankful that he doesn’t have a 1 hour special lined up on ESPN.

RB Westbrook has been rumored to be looking into signing with three teams: the Denver Broncos, the Washington Redskins, and the St. Louis Rams. As he is aging and likely on the last stage of his career, you’d think Westbrook would be looking to go to a contender. That would likely take the Rams out of the equation. But it has been reported that neither Denver or Washington is willing to pay much for Westbrook,  the Rams have been reported to be offering him the most money. There’s also the fact that the Redskins already have three aging RBs — Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, and Willie Parker –and they might not want to sign another.

So it has worked out that the Rams are still in the running for Westbrook, and if he decided to sign with St. Louis, he would be a welcomed presence in more ways than one. (more…)
